At Oakwood Bushcraft and Forest School, our mission is to reconnect people with nature and inspire a lifelong love for the great outdoors through hands-on learning, adventure, and discovery. We believe that nature isn’t just somewhere you visit — it’s a place where you belong.

Our sessions are designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and nurture respect for the natural world. Whether you’re lighting your first fire, building a shelter, foraging for wild plants, or simply listening to birdsong, every experience is an opportunity to learn and grow.

We value experiential learning, where getting muddy, making mistakes, and trying again are all part of the journey. Research shows that spending time outdoors improves focus, creativity, and mental well-being — especially in children — and we see those benefits every day in our woodland classrooms.

At Oakwood, teamwork and community are at the heart of everything we do. Our activities encourage cooperation, problem-solving, and shared achievement, helping people of all ages to develop resilience and confidence in a supportive, inclusive environment.

We also believe in caring for the environment and inspiring others to do the same. Did you know that a single mature oak tree can support over 2,300 species of birds, insects, and fungi? Or that healthy soil is home to more living organisms in one square metre than there are humans on Earth? Nature is extraordinary — and the more we learn about it, the more we’re inspired to protect it.

Through our forest school sessions, bushcraft adventures, and community projects, we aim to create lasting connections between people and the wild spaces around them. From cooking bannock bread over the fire to watching bats at dusk or discovering animal tracks after the rain, every moment outdoors is a chance to explore, learn, and belong.
